The RUF Guitars Story
Founded in 2021 in Warsaw, Poland, Ruf Guitars started as an ambitious project to push the boundaries of traditional guitar design. From the outset, we embraced the use of aerospace-grade materials, such as carbon fiber, and developed proprietary technologies like Ruffaine, to create instruments that are not only visually stunning but also acoustically superior and mechanically unmatched. How They're Built
RUF Guitars builds instruments from aerospace-grade carbon fibre composite, using methods adapted from the aerospace and motorsport industries. The bodies are constructed from carbon fibre sheets layered and cured under controlled conditions, then filled internally with Ruffaine, a proprietary composite material developed in-house. Ruffaine gives the body the mass and resonant characteristics of a conventional solid guitar while remaining immune to temperature and humidity changes.
The production process is assisted by robotic precision tooling, ensuring consistency across every instrument. Despite this, each guitar still requires significant hand-finishing and assembly. Stainless steel frets are standard. Fretboards are available in Richlite (a composite material) or traditional options. Necks receive a coating of nano-silver molecules that reduces sweating and bacterial growth, a practical innovation for touring musicians.
Finish options are extensive. RUF offers everything from exposed carbon weave and satin finishes to custom colour schemes and chameleon paint effects. The visual range of carbon fibre as a material opens up possibilities that traditional wood simply cannot match.
What Sets Them Apart
The flagship Schrodinger series is available in 6 and 7 string configurations, with scale lengths of 25.5 inches (6-string) and 26.5 inches (7-string). It is designed for technical players who need effortless access to the highest frets, though the tonal range is far broader than the "shred machine" label might suggest. Ruffaine can be tuned during production, with three flavour profiles (Plain, Brown, and Grey) that shift the tonal emphasis to suit different playing styles.
The real advantage of composite construction is consistency. These guitars do not react to changes in temperature or humidity. A RUF guitar that sounds perfect in a climate-controlled studio will sound identical on a humid festival stage or in a freezing rehearsal room. Combined with hardware from Hipshot and pickups that can be specified to the customer's preference, the result is an instrument that delivers reliable performance in any environment. Players who have tried them consistently note that they feel and respond like wood, not like the synthetic material they expect.
